This illustrated document signified both the presentation and acceptance of the Statue of Liberty as a gift from the French People. It was presented as “Liberty Enlightening the World” to the U.S. on July 4, 1884 and was accepted by the U.S. Minister to France, Levi P. Morton, on the behalf of the citizens of the United States. The Statue was sculpted by A. Bartholdi and was installed in New York Harbor in 1886.
